Both boys and girls in fourth and fifth grades have the opportunity to play on the Franklin Elementary basketball teams. Coach Tracy Wylie leads boys teams and Mrs. Shantel Cuppy and Mrs. Amy Price leads girls teams at Franklin. The girls’ season takes place in November and December and the boys’ season takes place in January and February. The teams compete against the other LCSC elementary schools throughout the season and then participate in a city-wide tournament.
Girls in fourth and fifth grades have the opportunity to play on the Franklin Elementary volleyball team. The team is coached by Miss Alyssa Geisler and Mrs. Shantel Cuppy. The team focuses most of the season on fundamentals of the sport and plays in a couple of matches against other LCSC teams.
Girls in fourth and fifth grades have the opportunity to be a member of the Franklin Elementary Cheerleading Squad. They are coached by Mrs. Deanna McRae. The girls begin practicing in January and cheer at the boys’ basketball games during the months of January and February.
Fourth and fifth grade students make up the Franklin Elementary Spell Bowl Team. The Spell Bowl team competes in a Purdue University sponsored competition every November. The team is coached by Mrs. Sarah Kitchel and Mrs. Tracy Wylie. The team practices three mornings a week up until the competition and then compete against other schools from surrounding school districts.
Fourth and fifth grade students make up the Franklin Elementary Math Bowl Team. The Math Bowl team competes in a Purdue University sponsored competition every March. Mrs. Tracy Wylie and Mrs. Sarah Kitchel are the Math Bowl coaches. The team practices three mornings a week up until the competition and then compete against other schools from surrounding school districts. Franklin Elementary is the host school for the Math Bowl which will be held at McHale Auditorium on March 1st.
Fifth grade students make up the Battle of the Books team at Franklin Elementary. These students are coached by Mrs. Shelly Crozier and competes in the Battle of the Books competition in April at the Logansport Public Library. A list of books is given to the teams that are to be read and studied. The team practices two times each week beginning in January up until the competition. This competition is held for the schools of Cass County.
