The Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association (IFLTA), in collaboration with the Indiana Language Roadmap, will present the 2020 IFLTA Multilingual Golden Ribbon for Exemplary World Language School District Award to Logansport Community School Corporation at this year’s IFLTA Fall Virtual Conference.
This award highlights outstanding contributions and successful efforts to demonstrate the importance of language skills in the globalized 21st-century economy. This award also reflects the vital link between excellence in K-12 and university world language teaching, research and advocacy, and Indiana communities businesses and organizations.
Under the leadership of Superintendent Michele Starkey, the EL and Foreign Language Programs have expanded much more than before. All the students who have taken EL, Spanish and Chinese courses have had the opportunities to take the STAMP, AAPPL tests for earning the Certificate of Multilingual Proficiency offered by IDOE. With Mrs. Starkey’s support, the LCSC Dual Immersion Language program has been offered to students for five years in Landis Elementary School. The Dual Credit Spanish and Chinese programs have greatly helped the students who are taking Spanish III and Chinese III courses. LCSC supports multicultural field trips and events, such as the Field trip to the China Bridge Competition in Indiana, Indiana Chinese Language and Culture Fair, International Fair in Indiana, Wabash WL Spelling Bee Event, and Chicago Chinatown Field Trip. The awards committee voted unanimously in selecting Logansport Community School Corporation as the recipient of the deserved 2020 IFLTA Multilingual Golden Ribbon for Exemplary World Language School District.
